In this digital age we are accustomed to viewing photographs on computer screens, tablets, and phones. However, the true purpose and destination for my photographs is the photographic print. Digital screens cannot compare to the detail and awe of a large format fine art print, where you can get lost exploring and re-exploring a scene, discovering the subtle nuances of the scene over and over again. Photographs in the digital realm lend themselves to short-term consumption, while those printed and displayed in physical reality are appreciated and savored for much longer. All of the images seen in my Landscapes collection are available as limited edition fine art photographic prints.
Printing photographs is complicated, and requires a lifetime worth of training and experience. While I endeavor to photograph striking images with technical and artistic skill, I cannot also pursue the skills in printing that would show my work in the most meaningful way. I entrust this task to my professional printing lab, one of the finest in the country. These printers are experts in their craft and bring the digital photograph into the physical realm with great skill, reliably producing museum exhibition quality work.
The printing process is a collaborative one, with coordination, conversation, and multiple proofs required to match the print to my final vision. I personally inspect all limited editions before signing, numbering, and shipping the art with a letter of authenticity.
These papers utilize modern printing technology and traditional photographic RA-4 chemistry to create prints on silver-halide photo paper. The Chromira printer exposes the light-sensitive material with LEDs and then processes the paper in a series of chemical baths - this is the modern darkroom.
A familiar choice for everyone, this paper offers a great color gamut and a beautiful gloss finish.
The non-reflective sibling of the basic Fuji gloss paper with a flat finish.
This is my favorite paper. Fujiflex is extremely glossy - almost like glass - and reveals prints with rich, vibrant saturated colors, deep blacks, and excellent shadow detail. SuperGloss is a silver halide, true photographic printing material on a polyester base, with an appearance similar to the somewhat extinct Cibachrome/Ilfochrome processes. Prints on Fujiflex appear three dimensional and just seem to glow from within. All of my limited edition color photographs are printed on SuperGloss.
Inkjet prints have recently seen unprecedented gains in quality. An Epson Stylus Pro 11880 printer propels droplets of ink onto the paper to turn a digital image into a physically finished form. This printer utilizes the latest advances in printing technology, including MicroPiezo print heads and UltraChrome K3 pigment inks.
A 100% cotton rag fiber based paper manufactured to the highest archival standards. This paper contains no brighteners, which have been shown to negatively affect the longevity of digitally produced images. Platine Fibre Rag is rated at 310 gsm, feels thick to the touch, and provides a rewarding tactile feel. This cotton paper has a microporous coating that provides the aesthetic and feel of original F-type Baryta Fibre papers with a true white tone. This paper is an excellent choice for both black and whites and color and excels with photographs that do not require a great deal of color saturation and punch. My limited edition black and white photographs are printed on Platine Fibre Rag.
This quality canvas shows the richness and subtlety of each photograph in a classic form. The canvases have a protective coating to make it waterproof and easy to clean. Canvases can be ordered as a ready-to-hang, 1.5" gallery wrap or unmounted and loose.
Acrylic face-mounted photographs have a vibrance and depth without equal. The front face of the print is mounted to a crystal clear, anti-glare, UV resistant acrylic sheet. The assembly is backed by an aluminum composite Dibond backer. These are ready-to-hang, with an aluminum subframe that floats the image from the wall. Paired with the Fujiflex Supergloss paper, these face-mounts are absolutely stunning. Acrylic Face Mounts are offered for limited editions or by special request.
